About Us
The Females in Flag all girls league is the largest all girls league in the country with over 3,000 yearly participants. Started in 2021, as the sister league to Matt Leinart Flag Football, the league quickly grew in popularity from several hundred individual girls participating on predominantly all boys teams to now hundreds of all girls teams.
The league is for girls in grades K-8th, and provides a safe and positive space where girls feel welcomed and supported. Females in Flag leagues are currently found in Costa Mesa, Irvine and South County, with additional leagues in Mission Viejo and Huntington Beach on the horizon.
Girls High School League - Leaving a Legacy
The genesis of the Females in Flag league started with the creation of an all girls high school league in Fall 2021. In response to the addition of women’s flag football as a sanctioned sport at the NAIA collegiate level, the Matt Leinart Flag Football league funded a girls high school club program. After a successful first season the Females in Flag league was formed to serve the youth girls in grades K-8.
The Leinart league sponsored the girls high school league for two years before girls flag became a sanctioned CIF high school sport in 2023. The NFL Network followed the league in its second season, capturing the push for official high school sanctioning.
